The theme in the 2007 NCAA football year could be thought of as "the year of upsets". Which should be sign to the ever so wise higher ups that BCS has some big glitches. The argument of why Hawaii(15) isn't recognized as they should be,according these clowns of college football, is because of the "strength of schedule" that Hawaii lacks. I just want to hurl when I hear that. First of all, it is important to note that Hawaii's strength of schedule is limited to the conference they play in. Second, Hawaii has been turned down by multiple teams like USC, Michigan, and have actually received money from some of these teams to avoid a matchup. But here is where things really don't make any sense. Yeah, LSU, Kansas, MizzU, and Oregon may all have tougher schedules, but many of these big teams have played lesser or nonranked teams. In addition these are teams that they have, either struggled with, or lost to. LSU has lost to 2 nonranked teams! Ohio state to Illinois, Oregon to Arizona, Oklahoma to Colorado, West Virginia to South Florida. This has been the case for many of the top ten teams with the exception of undefeated Kansas, and MizzU (who did lose to a rank team). So if these guys have the so called strength of schedule, why do they lose to far lesser opponents? And more importantly, why does BCS seem to look away to these key losses? With the defeat of the Boise State Broncos last night under them, I hope the BCS gives the respect that Hawaii deserves. Critics may argue the strength of schedule or even bring up the three close games Hawaii has had on the road. However, I point out that they are nevertheless wins. After all a close win to a lesser team is far better than a loss to a lesser team. Just go ask the majority of the top ten teams.
