Hawaii Business magazine and the Hawaii Institute for Public Affairs are sponsoring a series of breakfast seminars to educate and engage the local business community in the critical importance of creating a sustainable Hawaii. This series, entitled the "Hawaii Business 2050 Forums on Sustainability," runs parallel to the work of the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Task Force. Our forum on "High Tech: A Hope-Filled Future" was held on October 24, 2007 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Panelists included: Jennifer Goto Sabas, Chief of Staff to Senator Daniel K. Inouye; Patrick Sullivan, founder of Hoana Medical & Oceanit; and Larry Lieberman of Referentia Systems.

The desired outcome of this series of forums is simple: our goal is to educate and engage the leaders of Hawaii's business community so that they understand what sustainability means, why it is good for business and critical to the well-being of our community, and what the role of the business community is in achieving a sustainable Hawaii by 2050. By the end of the series, we hope business leaders will want to participate in an action plan for sustainability that will preserve Hawaii as a wonderful place to live and work for our children and grandchildren.
